Fully prepared for the summer competitions – Opening in Seinäjoki
Seinäjoki, Finland, 7 June 2009Everything is ready for the start of the summer competitions: The new javelins for the competitions have been checked recently, Tero is in good health and has carefully worked on the new throwing technique that he was introduced to during his training season. Tero’s hit-the-deck style that everyone is familiar with should now be a thing of the past, and he now looks for throwing power from his legs. The change in style was based on past successes. Five out of the six times Tero has thrown over 90 metres, he’s done it without having to hit the deck.
“I won’t probably stay up on every throw, but the intention is to avoid going down. When hitting the deck, the throw does not start from behind a support and not all the power in the legs is utilised in that case. When training, I do not hit the deck that much anymore, but competitions are always a different case,” Tero says.
Surely all javelin fans will follow Tero’s new technique closely this summer. Tero has also received lots of hints and advice from spectators so that everything would go really well. However, his personal experience is the most important starting point. This time, Tero has taken a composed approach towards the training season. The most important thing has been to maintain good health and avoid injuries. “Last year, I put too much power in some of the throws during the training season. This resulted in a few different issues. The summer went by as I tackled the injuries, my technique fell apart and I did not manage to get into the shape I wanted.”
